BIO-X® is in essence an industrial project steering process, but is utilized in a non-for-profit environment where industrial, clinical and academic projects can show proof of concept or the equivalent for solutions to defined needs.

We always work with clear agreements, defined project plans and mechanisms to secure ownership rights and confidentiality. We apply a well-proven process that ensures that you, your clinical and your academic partner reach a mutually beneficial agreement and a clear project plan. Uppsala BIO, a non-for-profit organization, manages the BIO-X® process. We take no ownership in the BIO-X projects.

As an industrial project partner, you are expected to contribute to the project’s cost in cash or in kind. In return, Uppsala BIO assists you with project reviews, cost tracking, agreements, etc. and you gain the first right of negotiation to project results for further product development.

Our agreement with Roche, connecting them as a strategic partner to some calls in the BIO-X programme, adds valuable resources to the programme, while keeping it open to other companies, both on a strategic level and on an individual project level.

At the moment Uppsala BIO runs a portfolio of roughly 12 life science projects in execution phase. In addition a number of projects are being supported by BIO-X to work out ways forward without the specific BIO-X funding. All these projects are validated and selected from over 250 submitted proposals. Five projects out of six that have left BIO-X continue to grow in companies.
