Current Uppsala BIO-X projects

Today all projects at BIO-X are focused on developing reagents, methods, and drug candidates for human and veterinary medicine. However, BIO-X is open to applications from the entire spectrum of life science.

The goal is for all projects to be able to further develop research findings into proofs of concept during the project period, normally two years, and thereafter to continue to develop either in an established industry or as a new company, which can then continue to receive support from Uppsala Innovation Centre.

Camdia develops highly sensitive techniques for ultra-sensitive biomarker detection, with special emphasis on colorectal cancer.

Pain Management develops a new slow release platform for oral delivery of highly potent drugs.

Microdosing is taking this concept further with accelerator mass spectrometry, addressing e.g. cumbersome and costly sample preparation while increasing the system’s sensitivity and stability.

Mast Cell Therapeutics was admitted to BIO-X in late 2008. The project involves the development of effective new forms of treatment tied to mast cells.

Two new projects were selected for Uppsala BIO-X and presented at the BIO-PUB December 2nd 2009. The first team has identified a substance active against several forms of sexual dysfunctions, both the physical ability and the libido. The second team is developing an alternative to antibiotics for combating ESBL-producing bacteria in the intestines.

Next call for BIO-X is planned for 2010. Read more about how to apply for BIO-X here.
