Innovations in patient care and safety

Uppsala University Hospital, Akademiska sjukhuset, is one of Sweden’s leading centers of clinical excellence and research. But there are many ideas and improvements in the daily routines of current healthcare that do not make it to commercialization and widespread use. Uppsala BIO has therefore initiated a project that bolsters the development of ideas, a typical example of Uppsala BIO’s role as a catalyst and coordinator.

In close collaboration with the hospital, and ALMI Företagspartner, Uppsala BIO is building an innovation support structure that will identify and develop promising ideas from hospital staff regarding improvements in their daily work. Ideas that can be the first step in an innovation–a new product, a new service, or a new method.

The long-term goal is to increase the flow of innovations and products while contributing to patient safety.

The project is currently completing its pilot phase and is planned to continue for approximately three more years before becoming fully integrated into the University Hospital.

A key role for Uppsala BIO is to integrate Innovation Akademiska with all actors in Uppsala’s innovation arena and to secure this bridging to Uppsala’s Innovation Arena.
