Uppsala BIO, competitiveness through collaboration

Uppsala BIO is STUNS's, the Foundation for Collaboration between the Universities in Uppsala, Industry and Society, arm for working with the life science sector and its development. STUNS was founded in 1985 with the aim of strengthening Uppsala’s competitiveness through collaboration between its founders and their networks.

Photo: Markus Marcetic		STUNS has a long-term strategic role and has a triple-helix-based organization. The founders are the County Administration of Uppsala, County Council of Uppsala, Uppsala Regional Council, Uppsala University, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and the Chamber of Commerce. Uppsala BIO, the cluster facilitator that operates Uppsala’s life science strategy, thus has a perfect fit within STUNS. In 2003 Uppsala BIO was a winner in the first
“VinnVäxt Competition” organized by the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems, VINNOVA. VINNOVA is a major sponsor of Uppsala BIO, and runs regular evaluation of Uppsala BIO's activities, involving international experts from the life science industry and from cluster development.

A Steering Group with long experience from the life science sector, and strong anchorage in the community, is selected by the STUNS board to monitor and guide Uppsala BIO.

The Management Team is responsible for carrying out the program.
